Finally, I got there…
I was on two weeks holiday, and I chose the most miserable day weatherwise for this..everything was soaking wet from the rain, shoes, camera…everything.
Today’s mission was Clifton and Leigh woods, but I’ve done Leigh woods couple of days ago twice. My photo walk will start in the end, because I was a bit lazy to start in the College Green and walk up to the hill, so I took the bus to The Downs, and walk down from the hill.
Our first stop will be The Downs, which is a very popular park by dog walkers, runners, a great place for BBQ, football, you name it.
Walking towards the Avon We arrived at Clifton Down, which I believe is part of The Downs, but it has various trails such as Bird trail, Tree trail, Lichen trail, Meadow trail, Seasonal family trail, History trail. Wildlife is various and rich, Goats in the Gully, Peregrine Falcons, Jays, Crows, Magpies, Ravens. Four types of tree, Bristol, Wilmott’s, Houston’s and Leigh Woods whitebeams, are endemic to the Gorge.
There’s a path to the Bristol ZOO if you don’t want to follow the road, the building of the ZOO is not very interesting itself from the outside tho.
Walking down from the ZOO, We arrived at the Clifton observatory and the Clifton suspension bridge. Now I have to admit that I never been in the observatory, as I didn’t find it any interesting for me, but if You want to go and visit, I leave the webpage here. The Clifton suspension bridge is the most popular place in Bristol, not just for the tourist, but for the Bristolians as well, and it is the world famous suspension bridge spanning the Avon Gorge and the River Avon, linking Clifton in Bristol to Leigh Woods in North Somerset, which was opened at 1864.
If We follow down Clifton Down Rd and take a left turn on King’s Rd We arrive at Clifton Arcade which is a very nice place, vibrant but all be it rather small. I have to admit that is my first visit here but not the last as I almost came late so I only had time for a couple of photos 🙁
This was my last stop in Clifton, although if you’re walking through the bridge you are in the Leigh woods, I did it earlier, so I leave the Leigh woods pictures here.
And again, Thank you to read this post, and I hope you find it interesting. 🙂
Leave a comment, like it, share it, or both, it’s up to you
See you soon, as I continue the photo walk in Bristol.
